Great Thinkers

Many great thinkers have impacted America's society and their way of doing things today. Some of these great thinkers who have influenced America are Smith, Wollstonecraft, and Montesquieu. They all benefited the American society with their ideas and beliefs. Smith said that he thought government should give us freedom in business, this concept is used today in business. The government lets companies such as Nike; and Baby Phat, do what they want with their designs and materials they make the product with. The government doesn't get involve in business and what the company decides to do what their products, unless it is hazardous to the citizens. Wollstonecraft, she thought that women should have an equal right to educated like men do. Society as adapted this belief for centuries now. Today if you walk in a school you would find girls and boys sitting in a class mixed together, being taught the same thing, nothing less or nothing more. Montesquieu had a theory that the best way to protect liberty was to divide the various functions and powers of government among three branches:

-legislative
-executive
-judicial
and each section would serve as a check on the other two, an idea that we call checks and balance. This is used in the American federal government.
